In this class you will be watching lectures outside of class and doing the majority of your homework in class. Observing assignments are the main exception to this rule.

This style of teaching is called a “flipped classroom”. Here is a good introduction to the motivation behind the flipped classroom, but if you’d like more details about the educational research regarding its benefits, please e-mail me.

Lecture Videos will be posted on the class YouTube site at the link below. With rare exceptions, there will be one lecture video to watch per class. You should go to this website before every class and watch the video.

Please take notes as you go along, and post any questions you have about the content as comments on the YouTube video. You may use your notes when taking the lecture quiz, and I’ll use any posted questions when deciding which aspects of the lecture video to focus on reviewing in class.

Lecture quizzes will be distributed at the start of each class at 5:30pm and will be collected promptly at 5:40pm. To keep class moving, I will not be able to give you the lecture quiz after 5:40pm, so please show up on time.

Some absences/late starts are inevitable throughout the semester, so your lowest two lecture quizzes will be dropped. There’s also an opportunity to earn two lecture quizzes worth of extra credit in case you miss more. Please see the “extra credit” link at left for more details.
