Activities:
Make craters in a pan of flour/sugar by dropping candy impactors. Study what influences their shape/depth/etc. Construct a “mystery planet” and guess what happened on its surface.
Identify the “Top 10 Scientists of All Time”
Identify Famous Astronomers
Construct a scale model of the solar neighborhood that reproduces the size and distance to each of our most nearby stars. Allow them to “evolve”, and pop them when they “die”.
Quantitative Literacy Activities
Fun Fermi (estimation) problems and simple puzzles having to do with space/astronomy. A great icebreaker!
